A local citation is any online mention of your business name, address and phone number (NAP). For a Castle Rock business, the listings that matter most are Google, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yelp, Facebook and BBB, followed by local sources such as the Castle Rock Chamber directory and your industry's main directory. Matching details matter more than the number of listings.

Hundreds of low-quality directory submissions will not move a Castle Rock business. A couple of dozen accurate, relevant listings that all say the same thing will. Start by checking the ones you already have.

NAP consistency checker

1. Your official details (as on your Google profile and website)

2. What each listing shows (copy it exactly)

The checker treats "Street" and "St", "Suite" and "#", punctuation and "LLC" as the same, and flags real differences such as a different suite, an old phone number or added keywords. Nothing is stored or sent.

The checklist

Where to be listed, in order

Tier 1: the listings customers and assistants actually use

ListingWhy it mattersNotes
Google Business ProfilePowers the Map Pack and Google Maps.Do this first. See our profile checklist.
Apple Business ConnectFeeds Apple Maps and Siri on iPhones.Free. Often forgotten.
Bing Places for BusinessFeeds Bing and Microsoft Copilot local answers. Can import from Google.
YelpStill a common reference for restaurants, services and shops.Claim it even if you do not advertise there.
Facebook pageMany locals check it for hours and reviews.Keep the About section matching.
BBBA trust check many customers run before calling.Business profile can exist even without accreditation.
Nextdoor business pageNeighbors recommend businesses by neighborhood.Useful for home services.

Tier 2: Colorado and Castle Rock sources

SourceWhy it mattersNotes
Town of Castle Rock business and tax licenseEvery business operating in town must hold one. It is an official record of your name and address.Applied for online through the Town's Sales Tax Portal; the Town says to allow at least two weeks.
Colorado Secretary of State business recordYour registered legal entity name and address.Keep it current when you move.
Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce directoryA relevant local listing and link if you are a member. The Chamber, founded in 1955, is based downtown at Fifth and Jerry.
Colorado business directoriesStatewide directories that list local companies by category. For example COBusinessList.com.
Sponsorships and local partnersMentions from schools, teams, events and partner businesses.Real relationships make the best local citations.

Tier 3: your industry

Every trade has a few directories that customers really use. Home services: Angi, Houzz, HomeAdvisor and manufacturer dealer locators. Health: Healthgrades, Zocdoc and insurance network directories. Legal: Avvo, Justia and the Colorado Bar. Restaurants: OpenTable, Tripadvisor and delivery apps. Pick the three or four that matter in your field rather than every directory you can find.

Data sources that feed other apps

Some companies collect business data and pass it to map apps, car navigation and smaller directories. Foursquare and Data Axle are two of the best known. Correcting your record at the source can fix errors that keep reappearing elsewhere.

The mistakes we see most in Castle Rock

  • A move that never got updated. Businesses that moved from Denver, Parker or another Castle Rock address often still show the old one on Yelp, Facebook or old directories.
  • Call-tracking numbers on listings. A different phone number on each site makes your details look inconsistent. Use your main number on listings and keep tracking numbers for ads.
  • Duplicate listings. A second Google or Yelp listing from an old owner, old name or an employee who set one up.
  • Name variations. "Smith Plumbing", "Smith Plumbing & Drain LLC" and "Smith Plumbing Castle Rock" across three sites.

A realistic order of work

  1. Decide on one official name, address format and phone number. Write it down.
  2. Fix Google, Apple, Bing, Yelp, Facebook and BBB to match it exactly.
  3. Make sure your website footer and contact page match too.
  4. Find and merge or remove duplicates.
  5. Add the Castle Rock and industry sources that fit.
  6. Recheck every six months, and right away after any move or phone change.
FAQ

Castle Rock questions, answered

What does NAP stand for?

Name, address and phone number. Local search tools compare these across the web, and matching details make it easier for Google, map apps and AI assistants to trust that a listing is yours and current.

How many citations does a Castle Rock business need?

There is no magic number. The core listings plus a handful of local and industry sources usually cover what matters. Accuracy beats volume.

Do I need to list a hidden address on directories?

No. If you hide your address on Google because you serve customers at their location, keep it hidden or use city-only settings on other platforms where possible, so the listings stay consistent.

Does the checker see my real listings?

No. It compares the text you paste in. It does not search the web or store anything.

Is "St" versus "Street" a problem?

Not really. Search engines understand common abbreviations. A different suite number, an old phone number or an added keyword in the name are the differences worth fixing.
